This episode was about 4 characters, sort of all individually. Kate gets fired from the police, and her last scene, she’s shown on the floor, with a bottle of vodka and a bottle of pills nearby. Did she kill herself out of despair? Cordelia was being lured to the house of the girl with the third eye on her heard, by some murderous demon. What will happen when she gets there? (She thinks the family is going to pay her for getting rid of the third eye, but it was a ruse.) Wesley breaks up with his girlfriend, and is still unable to move much because he was shot last episode. Gunn wasn’t in this episode at all.

Then of course, Angel. He gets taken to hell! After finding out that a senior partner is coming to Wolfram & Hart, he researches and discovers that it is evil coming from hell. But it travels from hell with a ring. Angel finds a way to stop him, and wants the ring to go to hell… so he can vanquish as many bad guys as possible and be redeemed. Bernard From Lost, who is dead, takes him there in an elevator. BUT horror, hell is earth, now. Man, that couldn’t be darker…. except in how Angel reacts!

This plunges Angel into even more despair. He finds Darla and sleeps with her, presumably trying to become Angelus (he wants to feel something). Has the good guy totally gone evil? He’s already been kind of evil lately anyway. Experiencing ultimate happiness will turn Angel into Angelus; in the past, this was achieved by sex with Buffy. I don’t imagine however that Joss would have it that Darla would bring him ultimate happiness. But that’s what the cliffhanger has us believe! So who knows? It’s not past Joss to turn the hero into the bad guy…
