Angel #1.10: Parting Gifts

Even though I was surprised that one of the few main characters was killed in the last episode, I never did really take to Doyle. Wiki says that Joss both planned to kill Doyle from the beginning, and that his character didn’t mesh quite right. I think that’s right, in my opinion. He was nice and loyal and all, but I don’t think anyone got entirely attached to him. I think of like Ms. Calendar in Buffy who was only on the show in a short time, but the audience totally latched on to. I don’t think that quite happened with Doyle.

So in a way I’m glad the show changed things up right away, especially in the way they transferred his properties in this episode. The visions got thrown to Cordelia. And then Wesley shows up! Now, HE is a funny character. I’m happy about this.

So here in this episode, Cordelia starts to learn about the visions Doyle passed to her. Wesley helps Angel with the research and demon talk (though Angel knows Korean!). Cordelia gets kidnapped by a demon, who wants to extract and auction her eyeballs. The evil law firm wins the auction, for unknown reasons–but seemingly to get some sort of track on Angel, who does show up and disrupts the sale/eyeball extraction. I hope this is the starting hint of a season-long story!
