The X-Files #1.22: Born Again

There was something out-of-sorts about “Born Again,” I cannot quite place it.  It was about a dead cop who was reincarnated in a little girl who was killing his crooked cop partners.  That’s paranormal, I guess, but the feel of the story was that it was almost a real regular investigation.  There was a lot of focus on the investigating and the clues and the fancy FBI techniques used.  In that way, it was interesting.  But it wasn’t X-FILES.

Also it had the look and feel of a movie, like the show suddenly had a lot more money.  There were lots of speaking extra characters, Mulder and Scully seemed to be dressed better, and the camera/lighting seemed like a step-up from the norm.  Also for some weird reason, Mulder narrated at the end, as he wrote his case report.  Scully’s done that a few times, and I was starting to figure they dropped it–but they brought it back with Mulder this time.  His conclusion of the case?  “Unknown.”  No kidding!  It’s like it was the first episode anyone ever watched so they had to have him express his conclusions or something.
