Vradio #51: Theme Time Rip-Off Hour #6: Jail

I gotta add, making a nice, diverse mix of songs about jail was not easy. In the end, it is not that diverse, unfortunately: mostly blues and old songs and some rap tossed in. There’s only one woman on here, and I tried to find songs that were actually about jail and not just a metaphor. Dylan’s mix was better.

1. Tom Waits “Fish In The Jailhouse”
2. Iron & Wine and Calexico “Prison On Route 41″
3. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “The Mercy Seat (acoustic)”
4. Loretta Lynn “Women’s Prison”
5. Akon “Locked Up (remix)”
6. Otis Redding “Chain Gang”
7. Public Enemy “Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos”
8. Two Gallants “Las Cruces Jail”
9. Bukka White “Parchman Farm Blues”
10. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee “I’m Prison Bound”
11. The Byrds “Life In Prison”
12. Elvis Presley “Jailhouse Rock”
13. Soggy Bottom Boys “In The Jailhouse Now”
14. Johnny Cash “Chain Gang”
15. Bob Dylan “Seven Curses”
