Lost #2.11: The Hunting Party

Sorry, my last Lost post was a really long plot recap. I try not to rely too much on recaps, because that’s not interesting, and they can be easily found somewhere else.

Anyway “The Hunting Party” wasn’t as jammed with plot anyway. What happened was, Michael went off to find Walt, and then Jack and Locke and Sawyer went off to find him. Kate went to find them, and Jin tried to too, but Sun wouldn’t let him (lame). The main event was Jack and Locke and Sawyer being confronted in the forest by one of the Others/Pirates/Whoever. He informed them that they were just being allowed to live there, and when Jack got back he asked Ana Lucia about training an army (presumably to encounter The Others).

I’m curious about Locke… he was the “trail” guy, following the little signs Michael made in the forest to figure out where he went. Locke’s apparently quite good at this. But he saw no signs of a giant swarm of people with torches, like the one that confronted them later in the night? How do they get around?

I think Jack had been more or less gone from the last few episodes, so it was cool to have an episode focused more on his spontaneous decision-making again.

The episode also had a lot about people rebelling against what they’re being told to do. Michael was told they could all go find Walt together, but he didn’t listen. Jack’s father told him not to do try this one surgery on some guy’s back tumor, but Jack did. Kate was told to stay behind and she didn’t. Jin was told what to do but he didn’t rebel (lame). Bad consequences all around for all the rebelling! Obey authority, people! Do not cross the lines that are drawn!

I’m struck after this episode, and the re-appearence of the Pirates/Others, just how insane this show is. I mean, there was nothing terribly crazy going on in this episode, nothing out of Lost norm. But… really, dang, this is nuts. I think I’m just hit by the possible idea that The Others are a massive group, who’d been on the island the whole time. That’s so wild.
