Angel #1.7: Bachelor Party
Like the last episode somewhat added some depth to Kate, this one fleshed out a little bit more about Doyle. Doyle’s a likable guy, and I can’t help but think he’s really there to play off Angel’s broodiness. Which he does, he always calls Angel out for lurking or dressing black or sitting in the dark and reading. Basically, Doyle rescues Cordelia, and just as she starts to like him a little more, his wife shows up. But she’s getting married to someone else, who wants to eat Doyle’s brains. So Angel stops that from happening. Though close a few times, Cordelia still doesn’t know Doyle is half-demon himself. The show ended with Doyle getting one of his visions of people in distress–and this time, it was Buffy! I believe Angel crosses over to the Buffy series to help her.
Despite some of my other criticisms about the small number of characters and not being as hilarious as other Joss series, I still mainly like season one so far. The biggest fault though is there is not (yet?) any overarching story. It’s just 3 characters, rescuing random people every week, or getting in some sort of demon mess. I assume that the two or three hints at the demon law firm may be some season long arc, but it hasn’t started yet. And it’s 7 episodes in! When will it?
