The X-Files #1.11: Eve
Holy, why do I watch creepy X-Files episodes before bed? I don’t think I really find the monster stuff as creepy as stuff like this one.
I would say that this and episode 10 were the best episodes of the series to this point, so it is clearly starting to hit its stride. Episode 10 was about The Alien Mythology, and this one wasn’t. It was about two murders, which Mulder initially thought was aliens. Finally, Scully is right!
Deep Throat, Mulder’s informer, shows up to point him in the right direction. It wasn’t aliens (which made a nice twist and in-joke about his theories, especially this early in the series). It was some old government cloning experiment gone bad which resulted in two murderous 8-year-old twin girls. Freaky! They were abducted from their bedrooms, and then there were scenes in a jail for the criminally insane–it’s these things I find creepier than the monsters. But the story had enough twists that you didn’t know where it was going. And it was still in full X-Files Monster Mode, exploring what different creatures (here, clones) will do for survival.
Cool episode, well-written, and gripping. I hope this string of solid episodes continues.
