Lost #3.13: The Man From Tallahassee

Finally the survivors crash Suburbia! Jack had been playing along because Ben had promised he’d be sent home, and he assures Kate that he would come back for her. This plan, the viewer knows, would not have worked, because the communication beacons are not working and once the submarine takes Jack and Juliet home, nobody would find The Island again. Also, because Locke blows up the submarine right before Jack and Juliet get on it.

I am a little unclear about Locke’s motivation for this, and why he is running what appears to be his own secret plans. They seem to be hinting that he either wants to avoid his father finding him, or that he is afraid that once he leaves The Island, he’ll go back to being paralyzed. I’m not sure I totally buy either explanation as his motivation, for some reason.

Ben realized Locke was going to blow the submarine up, and let him: Ben didn’t want Jack to leave, but also didn’t want to break his promise to Jack to let him leave. He then tries to seduce Locke with information and by telling Locke he’s important, just what Locke wants. Locke may be falling for it. And then, Ben shows Locke that they have Locke’s father locked away! (The flashback was about him and his father and how he became paralyzed.)

This was pretty cool episode, because I had been waiting for them to crash into Suburbia for awhile.
