Lost #2.23: Live Together, Die Alone
Part One:
Giant four-toed foot statue! Weird green phoenix bird! Desmond’s return! The group’s all being splintered up, as one group goes with Michael to The Others, another tries to beat them there via sailboat, and some others are dealing with The Button. These, I take it, are the two main issues of the story–who are The Others, and what exactly is The Button? And it seems we’re about to see a confrontation with The Others, and find out what happens when The Button is not pushed!
To be honest, I’d pretty much completely forgotten about Desmond. I guess it’s interesting he’s there again. Not convinced yet that he was necessary. But time for Part Two.
Part Two:
Everything’s clear! What happens when the button isn’t pushed? Apparently a huge electromagnetic field gets released into the air, and that’s what caused the plane to crash. I can buy that!
Still, not sure what the Dharma stuff and the hatches are. I think that’s the main unanswered question left. The show kept indicating that it’s fake, just an experiment, but there really was a consequence for not pushing the button. Sort of–it was a big blast, but everyone just shield their eyes for a few minutes and nothing happened (this time).
Nor am I sure exactly who The Others are–the confrontation between them and Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Hurley wasn’t as dramatic as I expected. They did let Michael and Walt sail away to rescue, Sayid never showed up, they let Hurley go, and took Jack/Kate/Sawyer prisoner. Is it just coincidence that they took the show’s love triangle prisoner?
Also did Desmond shut the whole thing down like he was trying? I guess as normal for Lost there were a bunch of answers given… but those answers upon reflection lead to lots of more questions.
