Vradio #30: Single Artist Mix #2: Danger Mouse

I was supposed to be at a Beck concert tonight, where he debuted all the (probably) rad new songs from his (probably) rad new album called Modern Guilt. But it got cancelled. So I’m home, and here is a mix instead. Beck worked on this upcoming-any-week-now record with Danger Mouse, a fun and successful producer of late, and nobody has any idea yet what they did together (besides one song, which is on here, skip it if you’d rather wait).

Danger Mouse made his name with the most awesome mash-up album ever, The Grey Album, where he mixed Jay-Z’s Black Album with music bits from The Beatles’ White Album. He set his collection free on the web, where it became a famous symbol of “illegal art,” challenging major label copyright controls. He went from there to produce different things and artists. He is one half of Gnarls Barkley, did excellent albums with MF Doom (as DangerDoom), and led the 2nd Gorillaz record. This year alone, he’s put out a cool Gnarls record, helped expand The Black Keys raw blues sound, and did the album with Beck. He definitely has a consistent sound, but it’s just diverse enough to not know what to expect.
