“Expecting” was an episode that felt straight out of Buffy. For instance, bad things always happened to Buffy when she slept with a guy. Here, Cordelia sleeps with the detective from Veronica Mars… and ends up impregnated with demon spawn. (I don’t think it was an unconscious rip, there were a few lines indicating they knew that in the Buffyverse, sex is bad.) Also Buffy often faced big bads, who looked cheesy, like it was a guy in a costume. The demon spawning with Cordelia? Looked and sounded fake as anything, so much so that it was not nearly as scary as I think it should’ve been. I think I actually laughed when it first showed up.

Anyway, the show was just that. It mainly established further that Cordelia and Angel and now Wesley are tight. Doyle, two episodes later, seems forgotten. While I like Wesley a lot so far–more than I remember liking him on Buffy–I wasn’t expecting Doyle to just be entirely written out like he was never there.
