Twin Peaks #2.1: May The Giant Be With You

For some reason I’d been finding this show to be a bit of a chore to watch. Feels intimidating in some way. But I liked this episode a lot, and maybe it will spur me to finish.

The big surprise was that this show kept going and never ending. Turns out it was two hours and I had no idea, and was getting annoyed it wasn’t ending. Besides that though, I was thinking it was the best episode yet. A little research and I realized it’s probably because it is one of the few David Lynch actually directed. The first half was awesome, all hypnotic and slightly off-kilter, just like you’d imagine a David Lynch show would be.

It opened right where it left off, with Agent Cooper having just been shot. In what was the best scene of the show, he lies there bleeding, as first room service comes in, and next a giant appears and gives him clues. Then Audrey was still undercover for reasons I don’t remember at the brothel. A whole bunch of crazy things happened in the night Cooper was shot, mainly a couple of suspects were in comas, one was shot, etc. etc. The story moves on, and I really liked how Lynch told it in this episode. It wasn’t too odd, and it didn’t go into too much either. It had the right balance in going back and forth between characters.

The long-forgotten girl who was with Laura when she died, returned, awaking in the hospital and ending the show with a truly horrifying flashback to the murder. Damn that was creepy!
