The X-Files #1.24: The Erlenmeyer Flask

The final episode of Season 1 was in full force–tapping right into the government conspiracy, evidence of aliens, paranoia, and crazy things happening. Great!

It began with some tension between Deep Throat giving Mulder vague hints about things, and Scully not wanting to rely on these hunches. Mulder was trapped between the two. Regardless, they continue investigating the hints, and Scully ends up realizing some fluid in an erlenmeyer flask contains extraterrestrial DNA. This leads to some this and that, and then Mulder gets taken by some bad guys. Deep Throat gets Scully into the main containment center, where she sees a little alien fetus! Everything she believes is put into flux!

But she can’t worry about that, since Mulder is still a hostage. Deep Throat says they can make a trade to rescue Mulder. I assume this means the frozen alien fetus, which somehow Scully carries in a cardboard box (!) to a dark bridge and gives to Deep Throat. He makes the trade, and gets shot! “Trust no one” are his last words! Also they then show Cigarette Smoking Man putting the alien baby into a giant hall of evidence in the Pentagon (he’s done similar in earlier episodes).

Season ends with Mulder telling Scully that Skinner had called him and shut down the X-Files, by order of “high up the executive branch.” This is the kind of decision Obama will have to make.
