The X-Files #1.4: Conduit
“Conduit” was an okay story, about a girl being abducted out of her trailer by The Aliens. Mulder was attracted to the case because it was remarkably similar to the story of his sister’s abduction. I think that was pretty much the point behind this episode. They mentioned his sister earlier once, but this really hammered home that Mulder is almost totally motivated (or, obsessed) by her disappearence. Scully tries to get him to scale back on that a bit, because it’s an apparent conflict of interest to the higher-ups.
On that topic, I like how all other FBI agents show so far in the show have been basically inept/bad. Except for the Deep Throat guy who was Mulder’s informer, and some local FBI agents who fax things for Scully and Mulder, pretty much every other agent on the show either sees The X-Files as a joke, or are just plain bad. (Here some agents barged into Scully’s motel room to ask Mulder a question–not only was he not there, but why would they barge into another agent’s room? After that, they trashed a 7-year old boy’s room.)
Anyway, “Conduit” once again had Mulder really close to an alien abductee, but all she would say was that “they told me not to say where I was.” Then her mother refused to let Mulder to talk to her more. So close to learning something! The part I enjoyed in this show was that it involved a bit more investigating–actual matching handwriting, even Mulder and Scully interrogating someone–instead of Mulder just making his amazing connections.
